Chemical vs. Physical
Today in class:
1) we went over the homework, Particulate Nature of Matter,
2) then we took a quiz,
3) got back our Observation labs,
4) mini in-class experiment (magnisum)
4) mini in-class experiment (magnisum)
5) took notes on Physical&Chemical Properties&Changes,
6) and filled out a worksheet with our partner on Chemical vs. Physical Changes
Physical Properties
- Everything has its own physical properties.
- A physical property is something that does not change into something new.
- For example:
- Color, shape, texture
Physical Change
- Changes in the physical properties of a substance.
- Examples:
- Snow turning into water
- Melting a penny
- How it reacts with other substances.
- What's the ratio?
- A substance changes into a brand new substance.
- Atoms are rearranged.
- does NOT make more atoms!
- Bonds are broken, and new ones are formed.
Chemical Change of Magnisum ---> Magnisum oxide
Mini in-class experiment on the effects of oxygen on metal.
Homework: Read 1.2 (if you have not already done so) & Web Assign Ch1.2 Rdg
